Mary and Joseph had a very unique opportunity that you and I will never have; they got to be the earthly parents of Jesus [Immanuel]. This must have been exciting and terrifying at the same time. They were right in the middle of such a sacred prophecy! Yet you and I do share something with Mary and Joseph–our common humanity. Both Mary and Joseph were humans just as you and I, and in that, they needed a savior just as you and I. While they may have been the earthly parents of Immanuel, they also needed a God who could save them and teach them, just as you and I. Our God is a “God who is with us,” and He wants to raise us from spiritual infancy into spiritual maturity; we are being raised by Immanuel.
What would the next year look like if we committed ourselves to being raised by Immanuel?
